Progressive Die Stamping of a Nickel Conductive Shield for the Cell Phone Industry

Progressive Die Stamping of a Nickel Conductive ShieldOriginally, a client requested Perfection Spring & Stamping Corp. to perform a costly conductive paint operation on their cell phone products. In order to shield various electronic devices from electromagnetic field and radio frequency interference, conductive paint was traditionally sprayed onto a product's masked plastic housing. This delicate procedure often resulted in a high incident of scrap due to "over-spray" onto cosmetically sensitive surfaces.

As part of our consumer's "Early Supplier Involvement Program," PSS engineers used progressive die stamping to develop a conductive shield that would replace this expensive plating process. This solution substituted our customer's costly $2.00 plating operation with a $0.27 nickel-silver metal stamping. By replacing our client's original masked plating with this innovative shield, we yielded our customer an annual cost savings of $800,000.
